/proc/filesystems does not contain btrfs. Modprobe makes no difference.

'lsinitrd|grep btrfs' gives no output.

"btrfs check" on the device works, however "btrfs dev scan" fails with:

failed to open /dev/btrfs-control

Google turned up https://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Problem_FAQ#I_get_the_message_.22failed_to_open_.2Fdev.2Fbtrfs-control_skipping_device_registration.22_from_.22btrfs_dev_scan.22

so I did a 'mknod /dev/btrfs-control c 10 234' but the scan still fails, presumably because the module still isn't loaded, even after rebooting.
