Doing a little googling I found a comment that said you need to make sure modemmanager is disabled as it will think it's a modem and try to initialize it... Other than that you can try:

$ tail -f /var/log/messages

In a terminal window and then plug it in and look through any new output when you do so.

I yum remove ModemManager,    But I still can not get a Com port .
How would I determine what com port is being used ?
