I vaguely recall a media flare-up a few years ago when it was found that baby security cameras were being taken over, and the perpetrators were making obscene suggestions to young children through them. What's new, apparently, is the search capability. It makes these unprotected devices available to the technically illiterate e.g. script kiddies. So the level of threat has jumped up by an order of magnitude. Burglars could use the security cameras of their theft target to be sure the coast was clear, if they were insecure and web accessible, and it is as simple for them as doing a search. Now, isn't that irony; the security system being used to breach security.
