Though, at this point, I am looking very strongly at staying with an
NTDomain setup. I am getting strong recommendations for AD being a
separate system from the file server, and I only want one system.
I have used Samba4 with an AD network. Not that much due to the way
our network is managed.
So is your AD controller Samba4 or Win? And what OS is your Samba4?

It is win.
I was using Samba 4 on Fedora 20 where I work.
It is a Windows domain controller.
We don't have any browsing enabled and have to have full links to
utilize it. Workstation sharing is disabled. Only allocated shares are
available.
My samba gui is smb4k for kde.
As I said, I have not used it much as I don't need that much network
sharing.
