Running Fc20 with MATE desktop. I saw an example of a URL using a bnjp:
prefix which I've never seen before. It was using port 8611.

I have a Canon MX926 multifunction device connected wirelessly via my home router. I am using a driver supplied by Canon because Cups/Gutenprint doesn't have support for that device yet. The Canon supplied driver is accessing the device via a URL of dnssd://Canon%20MX920%20series._ipp._tcp.local/, which I would suspect is a similar URL to what your Canon driver would be using. The BJNP: URL is what Canon-bjnp uses when it auto detects the device once the device is powered on. Without Cups-bjnp installed cups can't actually see the device and hence in that situation you need to configure it manually. I have always had Canon-bjnp installed from using previous Canon printers, and when I purchased the MX926 and installed the Canon driver I did not have to do anything for Fedora 20 to be able to auto detect the device, it just all happened automatically. As a side issue to this, the Canon supplied drivers also provided the facility to wirelessly scan to the computer with the device as well.

regards,
Steve
