Keyboard buffer? You can do something similar by opening a new terminal, and starting to type before there's a cursor showing. Quite often, what you typed is in the keyboard buffer, and appears momentarily afterwards. That sort of thing's generally a bad idea, though. Input devices shouldn't accept input before appearing as ready, and should really clear the buffer of anything queued in as they open up. Nor should pop-up input devices (e.g. interrupting instant messenger windows), be allowed to jump up and grab your keypresses while you're in the middle of typing in something else. It's a security problem. e.g. You've opened something, you're logging in, you've just entered your username, you're just about to type in your password, and some instant messenger window pops up just as you type in your password and hit enter. I've seen that sodding behaviour far too often. -- [tim@localhost ~]$ uname -rsvp Linux 3.9.10-100.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Jul 14 01:31:27 UTC 2013 x86_64 All mail to my mailbox is automatically deleted, there is no point trying to privately email me, I will only read messages posted to the public lists. George Orwell's '1984' was supposed to be a warning against tyranny, not a set of instructions for supposedly democratic governments.
