KDE itself hasn't ever caused me anyh problem. Though I recently upgraded to a 2009-vintage Intel Core 2 Quad system with 8 GB of RAM. What sort of hardware is the OP running K on? (Remember: K is the Windows analogue.)
my machine is not new but still a good one. It is a quad-core i7 @2300Mrz with 8 GB of RAM but most important KDE was running like a charm up to 2 days ago. So if it is an hw problem is a new bug introduced with the update.
