I need to go inside a directory named <notebook-source>;
but I am not able to do it.
An addendum to Joachim's suggestion: possibly try
ls -d notebook* | od -tx1
.. to look for funny alternate characters. Maybe the hyphen is some
funky Unicode like an en-dash, depending upon how it was created.

[phoenix@fnx ~]# rm -f .signature
[phoenix@fnx ~]# ls -l .signature
ls: .signature: No such file or directory
[phoenix@fnx ~]# exit
