What exactly do you have in the /home/user/.vnc/xstartup file

Mine is as follows
#!/bin/sh

# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
unset SESSION_MANAGER
unset DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
exec  /bin/sh /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc #   X11/xinit/xinitrc

[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
#vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
startxfce4 &
#twm &

Note: The change in the xinitrc to use the xfce4 and the startxfce4 &
