To drag this thread back on topic, I have achieved
success with a Samsung U28D590D monitor and a EVGA
GTX 750Ti video card.

The main stumbling block was the very very old
versions of the nvidia binary driver on rpmfusion,
but I found an alternate packager of the latest
version at negativo17.org, and they worked
perfectly. Details here:

(I do hope that someday I can switch back to
the nouveau driver, but at the moment it has no
support for the video card).
