Is it a sick package?
yes. it's a bug (negative feature??) in google earth's packaging.
Surely Google knows about it by now, it's been there for months,
but so far haven't see fit to fix it.

How does one get Google earth to send a email of a picture of my house ?
In my KDE Settings I have Firefox as my default Web browser. and Mailto:
is set to Thunderbird
Thunderbird is set as my default Email Browser.
In Google earth /Tools/Options/General/web browser mailto: handler. and
it fails
