I think I may have had an "AH HA" moment.....

Some HP Laser printers require the installation of a "Plugin" due to proprietary software.  See....

After installing the printer (I really recommend using the HP utility  hp-setup) you may need to run hp-plugin to install the plugins for you.  This may then allow the printer to actually print.
