trying to clarify/distinguish the various ACPI-related packages

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

bit of a beginner WRT to ACPI so i want to install the "appropriate"
packages on my fedora rawhide system to play with ACP, and there
appear to be a number of them:

$ yum search acpi
acpi.x86_64 : Command-line ACPI client
acpica-tools.x86_64 : ACPICA tools for the development and debug of ACPI tables
acpid.x86_64 : ACPI Event Daemon
acpid-sysvinit.x86_64 : ACPI Event Daemon
acpitool.x86_64 : Command line ACPI client
claws-mail-plugins-acpi-notifier.x86_64 : ACPI notification plugin for Claws Mail
libacpi.i686 : General purpose library for ACPI
libacpi.x86_64 : General purpose library for ACPI
libacpi-devel.i686 : Development files for libacpi
libacpi-devel.x86_64 : Development files for libacpi
wmacpi.x86_64 : Dockapp for laptop acpi/apm information
yacpi.x86_64 : Yet Another Configuration and Power Interface
$

currently, i can see the [acpi_thermal_pm] kernel thread running,
and i have *none* of the above packages installed. are some of these
packages obsoleted or superseded by some of the others? what is the
state of the art WRT ACPI in userspace? just trying to figure out
which packages are relevant and which aren't. thanks.

rday

p.s. i did find this web page:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/AcpicaTools

which i am perusing right now.
