The company I work for uses Lenovo workstation class T and W series laptops. I know that CentOS, Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Fedora all seem to work really well. The engineers use do a lot of 3D cad work without trouble. Don't know about the Y series, but I suspect it would be fine.
If you don't mind me asking, what software is used for 3D cad work? I have been looking at 3D cad options for my work using Linux.
