I think there is a difference between the question....

Has anyone integrated FreeRADIUS with NIS?

and

Can FreeRADIUS be integrated with NIS?

The fact that you've not found any information or documentation on how to integrate FreeRADIUS with NIS doesn't imply that it isn't possible.  It could mean that others haven't seen the need to do the work.  Or that some have done the work...but it was an in-house project and not released.  I've done a few bespoke projects that may have been of value to others but never made it into general release.
