Agreed. I mentioned at the outset that encryption was not present in vanilla vnc but it is extremely desirable. In fact, I would go so far as to say it should be mandatory.
The only reason it was not addressed was due to a desire to keep the problem set as uncomplicated as possible in order to determine what the firewall configuration problem was.
