Now my first thought is that it makes total sense this does not work
because clearly firewalld, systemctl and journalctl were forged in Mount

You could perhaps try to remove firewalld, or disable it, and run
iptables with iptables.service that reads the file
/etc/sysconfig/iptables to setup the firewall. The command iptables-save
would give you a starting point for that file.

Thanks Lars. I already did that and it works fine. But it would be nice
if this worked with firewalld too. If anyone in the know had commented
on this problem I might have learned if it was my config or an actual
problem with firewalld so I could file a bug.

libvirt has support for firewalld and should be adding rules. It seems that there is a problem in libvirtd. It is querying some information from firewalld and then not adding any rules.

Please open a bug for this against libvirt.
