To quote yourself: "but it seems that some people just do not read".  ;)

Please read my post again.  Unless I'm mistaken, mimeapps.list does not
support globs.  There is no way of of providing video/* or audio/*, say
as .mailcap allows you to.  Do I make myself clear now?  You will need a
separate line for every file type, no amount of scripting can help you
deal with that.

However if you tell me mimeapps.list does support globs, I'll shut up.
