I have retreved the Thunderbird folder from a crashed WindowsXP and now have it on a Fedora 18 /home/user install.
The Fedora install already has Thunderbird installed and New Emails are already in Thunderbird
this is a major mistake because now you have two profiles with messages
you may have missed in his post that he has a new profile and only wants
his email from oos.
people are moving their profile folder between machines and different OS'es
this is true. one can find progs/add-ons at mozilla.org for backing up
profile to carry from one os/computer to another.
you can reuse your whole TB profile which includes account-settings as well
as all extisting mails - "~/.thunderbird/profiles.ini" contains the folder
which the current profile, in my case a fixed path on a different disk
profiles.ini is in the 1st ".thunderbird" directory and contains the name
of the _active_ *.default directory. if user has not "played" with the file
as i do and is a "normal" install, there will only be one *.profile
directory.
in my "playing" with thunderbird, when it was conceived after "netscape",
i have had up to 6 different *.profile directories with corresponding
profiles.ini.[playname] so that i can use several different profile
directories for various reasons. mainly for various configs and add-ons.
including trouble shooting thunderbird profiles for users.
to make changes, i have scripts to cp and rename which every profile
configs and add-ons. such helps to keep thunderbird from bloating with
add-ons.
in the "profile" directory, i use soft links links to a directory for
the _common_ files and directories. ie, "Mail" and "News" and _some_
of the files that are common thru the various profiles. linking can
also be used to hold "Mail" and "News" profile files on separate
partitions/drives.
no idea how to merge the profiles
it is tricky, but can be done
maybe move all the new messages to a IMAP server and replace the
whoe linux-tb-profile with the windows ones is the best solution
again, op has already setup his linux thunderbird.
