Is this still a good practice?  If not, please let me know where I should put my custom startup scripts.

# cat /etc/redhat-release 
Fedora release 19 (Schrödinger’s Cat)
# uname -a
Linux pc1 3.9.9-301.fc19.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Jul 4 15:10:36 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
