Look at section 12 "storage and partitioning" in the 'Quick Start Guide' figure 9 + comments. And then sections 9.13 and 9.14 in the 'Installation Guide'. (It's a lot like reading math books/papers skipping the proofs because you want to try them yourselve first). Here you browse the guides and then experiment with anaconda.
