Apparently postgres doesn't handle images too well but I have no
knowledge on that.
What would you recommend please.

I use lots of Asus EeeBox 1033 machines as CentOS 6 based appliance web
servers. I am sure Fedora would run on them, too. Silent, low power
consumption and no linux compatibility issues.
