Does > it offer some advantage? > Well, all of my f18 system which were updated from f17 via fedup seem to have been automagically switched to running firewalld. They were all "test" systems and didn't have any complex iptables rules. Not sure if fedup checks for such a situation which would prevent the transition. However, since the systems are now running firewalld and since firewall-config eases configuration I found it beneficial to install it.
