After reading through that page there is little doubt that I might
create more problems than I would fix. There is nothing that simply says
do this to stop tabs.
And then:

MiscAlwaysShowTabs=FALSE
What does this mean? It says False, but the tabs show!
After using things as they are for a few days I think I can live with
the tab function; I haven't had a problem with them since first
discovering them.

And I am quite happy with the way Fedora 18 and XFCE are working on this
computer now.
