I installed from the full DVD iso but I guess i shouldn't be surprised. ntp also didn't get installed which caused firstboot to hang when trying to sync the time, and therefore didn't complete. I'm still getting strange hostname errors from rpmbuild... Installing vim-enhanced seemed to fix the highlighting, thanks.
