Hi all
This afternoon I installed Fedora 18 on a blank 97g partition on my
Ubuntu 250gig drive.
Installation was a breeze, it just worked. Grub lists all the boot options.
Yum updated over 470 files.
Sudo refused to let me use user with root permissions even after editing
sudoers. More tinkering unless I'm doing the wrong thing with sudoers.
Dunno!
Fed18 reads ubuntu and Fedora16 files direct, so moving/copying is easy.
Fed 18 didn't find my Fuji Xerox laser printer, no Fedora version has
ever found it, so manual fiddling coming up tomorrow.
In Fedora 16 I learned the Gnome 3 desktop so find no problem with the
Fed18 desktop.
Haven't lost a moment's sleep over Gnome3 vs the other desktops.
Installed Ruby and Rails and the gems
I am however having trouble getting rails server to work, it needs
libxl2 so more investigating needed. Don't know where to look for that?
I don't know where apache is or if Fedora 18 uses apache? bit stumped on
that one as I need to set up drupal 7 and 8 to work in firefox.
Set up thunderbird and tomorrow I'll copy the /mail folders over.
So far all is impressive. Looking very much forward to using Fedora 18
for a long time to come.
Thank you very much to the Fedora Devs who worked so hard on this new
version, it's greatly appreciated.
Roger
