/var/log/messages, ~/.xsession-errors tell you nothing useful?

I can have the computer properly working issuing a combination of keys (not sure maybe Alt+F1 is o.k.): I don't know how to debug this issue, or shall I go to install a fresh F18 that I am already downloading??
