Just a suggestion: try running powertop in the two scenarios and check if
anything suspiciously different comes out (watt absorbed, cpu states, ...).

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried powertop, but I don't see any differences or maybe they are just not obvious enough for me to notice :-)
