Are you saying you tried to "execute" that in a shell?

That line should be added to the /etc/exports file.... Not to run in a shell....

   Yes, that's what I understood from the procedure, apparently my
   interpretation is wrong. I can put it in /etc/exports easy enough.
   Will do that ...

That appears to have fixed the problem, now something in the firewall needs fixin'. Your help much appreciated.
