I know that in Linux you can get around some invalid characters, such as spaces it is NOT invalid do NOT use completly wrong terms you SHOULD not use special chars for files/folders but they are NOT illegal if you have to deal with different OS and filesystems you SHOULD use web-conform filenames which results in no troubles at all
