Paolo,

We don't know that for sure - it may have been scratched or somehow
damaged in the interim - though, quite possibly, you are right.

Boris.

Boris,
the DVD isn't defective since it's what I used to install F16 on the
hard disk. I'm starting to believe I have another defective motherboard :-(

I let the system sit powered off for a while and then booted the F16 DVD
and it booted fine and mounted the file systems just fine. However, when I
tried to boot off the disk it got to the point of telling me it needed to
do a selinux relabel and then powered off.

The fact that letting it sit let it go further than before leads me to
believe that the battery was being more fully charged? I'd let it sit
overnight, and then try. :)

This might also be a problem with the power, going off of what you mentioned about the fans for Linux vs the fans for Windows, it could be a configuration FOR the motherboard that needs resetting, I've seen laptops get FRIED from not having the power configured properly, and on the other ensd of the spectrum, I've seen laptops not power up at all, even though the battery was fully charged, and the power supply was plugged in from the same power configureations not being correct. Just something you might look into....
