Some laptops don't work off of the AC directly, but off the battery, which is cont'ly charged by the AC. If the battery is at a low level, any requirement for high current drain such as when doing cpu intensive tasks, can exceed the battery's capabilities if it's not fresh. Just my .02. YMMV. Good luck!
