Anyone see anything similar? Not seeing this on F16 i686.... Will it happen if the firefox window doesn't have focus? Or, does it need to have focus and you're actually doing something? It you don't have focus and it periodically goes to 50% usage, you can try "strace -p NNN" where NNN is the PID see what goes one.
