Actually the problem with the original post is that it tells us virtually nothing useful about the OP's Evo setup, such as whether it's a fresh install or an upgrade from an earlier version of Evo (which used a different on-disk data format and file layout), whether he uses POP or IMAP or Exchange or Groupwise or whatever, whether he's using filters and has made sure the Search box doesn't contain an invisible character, whether he gets any authentication errors, whether he's tried running Evo with logging, etc. etc. I use Evo under F17 and my experience doesn't match what the OP says, not even slightly. I would suggest that the OP try the Evolution list (https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/evolution-list) where he might find more focused help. And lastly, comparing Evolution code quality to that of Fedora is a distraction.
