I've both upgraded from Verne -> Beefy via Preupgrade (i686) on a laptop & a fresh install via Live CD x86_64 Beefy on a Core 2 Duo with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Via Live CD, the install is very quick indeed. Minimalist to say the least :-) The Live CD, which I downloaded after the release date, was still marked Alpha. Very happy here. YMMV...
