Washing tends to make them fall apart faster, not slower (intense
mechanical agitation and all that ;).

Dirt embedded within the fabric causes more wear with flexing. And some
"gunk" that gets on shirts dries stiffly leading to high stress points
at the edges of the dried gunk - like Elmer's Glue, cyano-acrylate, and
other fun stuff you might find yourself playing with.
You have raised an interesting question that is incredibly far off topic.
Is there an optimum time to wash clothing relative to accumulated dirt of
various types irrespective of odors generated?
