Just to eliminate some obvious issues, how fast is your processor, how much RAM do you have and how much swap? I ask, in part, because I have an aging 1.8GH CPU and the motherboard's maxed out at 1 GB. (I'm saving up for a replacement.) Some things are running slower, now, as RAM requirements mount although not as badly as what you're reporting. Still, it's always best to make sure.
