I don't see any difference, > excepting the (useless) applet. Ibus is essential for complicated-to-input-multi-keystroke languages, like Chinese and such. If you don't know what it is, most probably you don't need it. OTOH, I am not sure how much system resources it uses when idle, so if it doesn't have a big memory footprint, you can leave it be.
