I don’t use ddclient, but I presume that when you say you created a /run/ddclient folder, you mean you put a suitable file in /etc/tmpfiles.d ? Otherwise, since /run is a tmpfs, the directory you created will only last until you reboot. (This would appear to be https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734273).
