The reference to GPT means that you have a computer that uses the new EFI system that replaces BIOS as the booting system. If you want detailed info on what that means to you look in the December 2011 and January 2012 issue of Linux Journal. I could send them to you as pdf files but they are each 8mb in size so tell me if you can process files that big through e-mail.
