Slow USB port - enabling high speed hubs.

Hi
I am passing a lot of info from my USB pendrive to the hard drive

I am using FC16 (Linux pepewin 3.1.6-1.fc16.x86_64 #1 SMP Wed Dec 21 22:41:17 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux )

I am curious, why if I have a USB 2.0 full speed device --supposedly 480 Mbit/s (60 MB/s), I only see a transfer speed on the jobs notification window of 600 KiB/s

I have an Intel DG31PR motherboard with 8 USB2.0 ports. The controller chip is an Intel 82801GB (ICH7).
I see the note about "not running at top speed, connect to a high speed hub", but how do I enable the high speed hub if as far as I know, they all are supposed to be high speed hubs?

The device is directly connected to a USB port on the back of the computer (to make sure it is directly connected to the motherboard, nothing in between).
