Indeed, the performance with current iwl3945 is unsatisfactory to say the least. I've filed a bug report here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753299 as the link throughput was stuck at 100kBps. Apparently enabling hardware scanning helps. However, once enabled, there will be occasional lockups due to scanning, which can be prevented by hardcoding AP SSID in the wireless settings.
