Please be sure you have a cable connected to the NIC. You can check with ifconfig eth0 (look for the RUNNING label) or using ethtool.

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:
DEVICE="eth0"
BOOTPROTO="dhcp"
_ONBOOT_=yes
NM_CONTROLLED="no"
TYPE=Ethernet

Rebooting doesn't enable eth0, only lo.
