Get a better grip on the impact of this issue, there are few people using that 
little memory on their video cards, much less main memory. And the fix seems to 
require changes in many places and would need code freeze exceptions. The risk 
to reward ratio is very high on that.

Here I'm totally with you, with a month lead the release notes should have, and 
could have, been changed. If you report a bug you often get asked if you read 
the release notes, I think that implies they should cover stuff known a month in 
advance.
