Good Evening, >> I am trying to install F14 on my box... Without any success so far. >> >> The problem: when it comes to write the partitioning scheme to the >> disk, the system freezes. >> [...] As I suspected, the problem was "hardware configuration" related - or to be exact: BIOS related. I investigated the problem further and came to the conclusions that: - either there was problem between the 2 disks (e.g. master/slave arbitration...), or - something was wrong with the DMA. I was about checking the 1st point when I noticed a strange setting in the BIOS. The UltraDMA Mode was set to 'Mode 5' for the disk that caused trouble during the install. That was odd: there is no reason to have something else than 'Auto'. After switching to 'Auto'... tata... Everything ran smooth. That was really wicked! This settings has been there for eons and probably set inadvertently. It never caused troubles so far... Anyway. Thanks to of all you for your ideas!
