As long as you have enough RAM and fast enough disks, any connecting clients should not be able to tell the difference. There aren't separate server and workstation versions of Fedora. There's only Fedora. Any differences between the AMD Phenom and true Opteron server CPUs is not usually noticeable until you really begin loading it with heavy I/O like a large Oracle database or a high-volume secure web site. True server machines optimize I/O at the expense of things like 3D video and simple disks. Fedora is an excellent learning tool. After a few months, if you feel like standing up a true server, there are more stable releases such as CentOS and Scientific Linux you can migrate to very easily on a real server platform with a real server motherboard.
