more problems with fc14 as vm guests

I'm running several kvm vm's on a centos5.6 system.

I have an FC13 guest that is working fine.

I had two working FC14 guests, and each one broke when I updated to
kernel 2.6.35.12-90.fc14.i686

One broke a couple weeks ago, so I delayed updating the second FC14
guest, which was running kernel 2.6.25.12-88.fc14.i686 -- until today.

I had installed both FC14s with the default LVM layout.

In both cases, the update seemed to be proceeding but toward the end,
when I wasn't looking, both times the guest just shut down by itself.
And in both cases when I tried to boot, I the failure involved not being
able to mount the root fs, but the systems fail differently. In one
case, I am dropped directly into the grub shell, but grub cannot find
root. In the other case, I can get the regular grub menu, but whether I
choose the new kernel or the earlier kernel, I get a kernel panic.

thanks in advance.
