Triadi,

Two possibilities.

(1) Your VGA splitter device might limit its output resolution to
1024x768. That's common with VGA-type KVMs.

(2) Your Modeline statement looks incomplete. Try using the gtf utility:
$ gtf 1280 1024 60
You'll get an output line that looks like this:
  # 1280x1024 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 63.60 kHz; pclk: 108.88 MHz
  Modeline "1280x1024_60.00"  108.88  1280 1360 1496 1712  1024 1025
1028 1060  -HSync +Vsync

Try copying and pasting those two lines into your xorg.conf file. I had
to replace the underscore '_' character in the double-quotes string with
a space ' ' to get it to work in my system.
