Hi Mairin,
I checked the instuctions so that I made a pristine enviroment via
Fedora 14 Live USB with persistant memory. I installed all
dependencies on this clean system (but without any updates since
Fedora 14 release), then downloaded Blender source files and tried to
compile and run it.

I found only two missing dependencies, gettext and gettext-devel.
After those dependencies were installed Blender compiled without
errors and starts ok.

I get this message when I start Blender:

$ ./blender
Info: Config directory with "startup.blend" file not found.
found bundled python: /home/liveuser/blender-build/install/linux2/2.56/python

Are you running Fedora 14? Have you made some tweaks to your system?

Hope this helps.

Valent.
