Well that shouldn't be a problem, because my /boot partition is 1 Gig.

If you are doing upgrades all along, there isn't necessarily a particular
point where you'd want to do a full install. Recently the default /boot
partition size from the past has been a bit small if you are using preupgrade
and not yum directly.
